FEB UGM Students Won Best Speaker for Academic Paper in the 16th Sharia Economics Days

Salim Fauzanul Ihsani (Economics Department 2013) and Abror Tegar Pradana (Economics Department 2013) had been successfully won the Best Speaker for Academic Paper in the 16th Sharia Economics Days Conference (SECOND 2017) held by Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Indonesia.
SECOND is the eldest annual students’ scientific meeting in Islamic Economy in Indonesia. In 2017, SECOND FEB UI hold theme titled “Excavating the Potency of Islamic Economics to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals”. There were 2 categories in the conference; Academic Paper and Innovation Paper. The committee chose 10 best papers from each categories to be presented in the SECOND 2017. Representatives in the conference were from Universitas Indonesia, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Universitas Padjajaran, UPII, UMY, Universitas Airlangga, STIE Tazkia and Universitas Jenderal Soedirman.
Salim and Abror, under the team name “Alquds Economists” wrote paper titled: Analysis on Effectivity of Cigarette Tax Policy as Disincentive of Cigarette Consumption on Indonesian Poor Household. Alquds Economists Team tried to offer a new atmosphere in Islamic economics research, which usually only covers the area of sharia bank, zakat, waqaf. Alquds Economics considered that there were many other public policies which hold Islamic value that could be elaborated as Islamic economics research. Salim and Abror considered that the control of cigarette consumption had a significant relationship with Islamic value and had a huge impact in the accomplishment of SDGs. Best speaker is the highest achievement of 16th SECOND FEB UI 2017.
