"Achieved as the UGM Outstanding Student (Mapres) is not planned since the beginning," said Jesita Wida Anjani (Economics-IUP 2016). She was born in Semarang on June 1, 1998, and she is one of the brilliant students in FEB UGM.
The twenty-year-old student initially did not expect that she could become the UGM Outstanding Student on 2018. Her participation in the fourteen competitions for the period of 2016 until 2018 has made her be an outstanding student candidate, which caused him to be awarded as UGM Achievement Person, on Wednesday night, 14 November 2018 at Graha Sabha Pramana. In all competitions she participated during her period as the FEB UGM student, she was only defeated once in a competition named JOIN MUN 2016. Of course, fourteen wins in the competitions did not escape from the guidance of parents who have formed her into a competitive person. She has participated in various competitions since she was young, starting from coloring competitions, fashion shows, and debates when she stepped in high school.
Regarding her achievements milestones in the university, she started from JOIN MUN 2016 and being defeated. However, failing on JOIN MUN 2016 competition did not make her gave up, she continued to try again by participating in the paper competition in the contest of the Youth Economic Conference 2018 and succeeded to receive the award as Best Delegate. Her achievement motivated her to be more enthusiastic in joining other competitions. One of the highlights was when she penetrated the international level competition in the Asian Pacific Model United Nation 2017. The competition gave her the Best Position Paper award. In addition, her victory was obtained in various models of competition, including paper, business case, and investment analysis.
In her opinion, regarding the interest of FEB UGM student to participate in the competition, she hoped that FEB UGM students would be encouraged to participate in various competitions. According to her, many FEB UGM students are capable in term of ability but they are reluctant to try. The failure at the beginning will certainly occur if we still did not understand the situation at hand, but that kind of experience needs to be obtained as much as possible according to Jesita. By understanding the competition atmosphere we face, we can take lessons learned. It is the accumulation of defeat after defeat that shapes our mentality and enhances our abilities both in terms of knowledge and mentality.
The experiences in dealing with different type of competitors will help us turn into a more humble individual. Because we can learn that there are actually many people outside our environment who have abilities above us. She conveyed that if we have not done any exploration and tried to challenge ourselves, then, we always feel great. But if we dare to get out of our comfort zone, we can form a humble individual in us. In addition to improving personality, competing and challenging ourselves, we also bring insight into other perspectives.
She said that working hard in young age is a must. For her, this is a form of responsibility for the trust of the parents that has been given to us. Her last statement is one of our reflections to keep improving and working hard as a student.
