Ayasha Kirana Nusantoro (Economics-IUP 2015) together with her teammates, Shinta Suhartono (Universitas Indonesia) and Fahmi Rizaldi (Institut Teknologi Bandung) became the 2nd Winner during Tokopedia Product Academy which was held at Tokopedia Tower located in Jakarta, from 1-5 April 2019. Tokopedia is a leading tech company, sometimes referred to a unicorn in Indonesia that provides three business lines, namely marketplace, digital, and financial technology.
Tokopedia Product Academy is an intensive 5-days development program that is intended for final year students from a diverse background which includes IT, design, and business. With over 2,000 applicants across the country, only 39 are chosen to participate after going through the intensive selection process. The selection process includes five stages, from CV screening, psychological test, focus group discussion, interview, and case study. Participants were then assigned into teams of three from different universities, and given a case to be solved and presented on the last day.
During the program, participants were coached directly by the product owners of Tokopedia, had in-depth discussion about product design, from learning about the concept of minimum viable product (MVP), UI/UX research, how to become data-driven when creating a product, conduct product design, design sprint by creating wireframes, and scrum in order to execute a product. Participants were also assigned to conduct market research in order to identify the customer’s demand towards the product that may be profitable to the firm.
On the last day, each team was given 15 minutes to pitch their proposed solution on how to boost the firm’s profit by creating a product that fits the customer’s demand. Teams were also challenged to create a prototype of the product within the three days since the case was given. Participants were then directed to the Gala Dinner where the winners were announced.
"Tokopedia Product Academy was challenging, as I needed to compete in a field that wasn’t familiar for me since I am majoring in Economics and it has nothing to do with tech or product development. However, the training program and mentors provided by Tokopedia helped me a lot in understanding the tech industry," said Ayasha.
