The brilliant achievement was again inscribed by students of the Faculty of Economics and Business at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM) in the Student Formula Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Competition 2019 that was held at the Ecopa Arena, Shizouka, Japan. Made Bilan Asasia Binov (position: number 3rd from left), Management IUP class 2016 student as Deputy Captain in the Managerial, Business Presenter, and Racing Driver Team of the Bimasakti Pertamax Turbo Racing Team UGM who also contributed to the achievement of JAMA Chairman Award, No. 1 Student Formula Team in Indonesia, Top 6 Overseas Team, Top 8 SkidPad, Top 5 Presentation, Top 3 Overseas Design, and Outstanding Performance Award. This prestigious competition which was held on August 27-31 is a place for students to design, build and develop formula-type cars on a small scale.
The competition begins with a technical inspection from the judges. The car will be assessed based on the safety factor. In addition, there are checks on the weight test, tilt test, noise test, and also break test. Of the 130 teams registered from all over the world, only about 50 teams qualify for the next stage. This competition consists of dynamic and static events. Dynamic events include skidpad, acceleration, autocross, and endurance. Meanwhile, static events consist of design presentations, cost events, and presentation events. Due to hard work and team cohesiveness, the Bimasakti was able to compete until the end of the race and record various achievements.
Behind this amazing achievement, of course there’s a lot of sacrifices. Long preparation requires each team member to develop the car every day, from Monday to Sunday after lecture at 19:00 to 23.30 WIB. There are no holidays, except Saturday. This also applies to Bilan. Even to balance out his academic activities, Bilan often does his duties at the Bimasakti while doing his assignments.
Interestingly, FEB students are generally very identical with the tradition of being a faculty event committee. That is, FEB students tend to be interested in joining committees at the faculty level rather than universities. So did Bilan during semester one or two. Even Bilan is an active student in the faculty committee. He noted that he had held up to six events. However, since joining the Bimasakti team in 2017, Bilan decided to pursue his dreams and passion since elementary school into racing.
"We've been at UGM. UGM has many places to develop themselves. Don't just choose, it must be according to your liking. Because it turns out when you work in accordance with passion, not tired, it is even more challenged, "he said.
