The "Eggconomy" team from the Undergraduate Program, Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM) won first place in the National Scientific Writing Creation Event (AKSANA) 2024 held on October 27, 2024 at Universitas Tidar, Magelang.
In a competition focused on sustainable development strategies through the green economy, blue economy, digital economy, and tourism promotion, the Eggconomy team achieved victory with their scientific paper titled "An Analysis of the Impact of Tax Incentives as a Stimulus to Encourage Electric Vehicle Adoption in Support of Sustainable Economy in the Special Region of Yogyakarta". The Eggconomy team consists of three accounting students batch 2022, Adella Wahyu Pradita, Aurel Diyah Agustin, and Hilda Bhakti Fahrezi, under the guidance of Gunawan Wibisono, S.E., M.Acc., CA.
Hilda Bhakti Fahrezi explained the rationale behind their chosen topic, noting the high number of motor vehicles and the annual increase in motor vehicle use in Yogyakarta. In this context, she and her team decided to study the impact of tax incentives on adopting electric vehicles in Yogyakarta. The Yogyakarta government has introduced a 0% vehicle tax (PKB) and registration fee for electric cars.
"Based on the supportive local government policies, we wanted to determine whether these policies could influence consumers' interest and decision to adopt electric vehicles," she explained on Friday (11/02/24).
Hilda described that they conducted qualitative research through interviews and a literature review. Interviews were conducted with respondents, from FEB UGM lecturers to members of an electric vehicle club in Yogyakarta. The study found that tax incentives are only one factor driving the adoption of electric vehicles.
"The impact will remain limited without adequate infrastructure support and a comprehensive policy strategy," she added.
When asked about their achievement, Adella Wahyu Pradita expressed her pride and excitement at winning the AKSANA 2024 competition. It was the team's first experience participating in a scientific writing competition during their studies.
"We enjoyed the whole process, from brainstorming research ideas to conducting offline interviews with different respondents to writing. It felt like all of our efforts paid off," she said.
She also emphasized that her success was due to the support of her faculty advisor and the facilities provided by FEB, from preparation to competition.
"We hope this achievement can motivate other FEB UGM students to participate in writing competitions, especially those with a sustainability theme," she said.
