The Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM) organized a public lecture on "Financial Literacy and the Development of the Insurance Industry". The event was held on Friday, October 4, 2024, at the Pertamina Tower Auditorium, FEB UGM.
The public lecture featured two main speakers: the Head of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) of Yogyakarta Special Region, Eko Yunianto, and the Compliance Director of Mandiri Inhealth, Marihot H Tambunan. Attended by more than 100 UGM students, the event was made possible through a collaboration between FEB UGM, OJK and Mandiri Inhealth to promote financial literacy among young people. This initiative aligns with FEB UGM's mission to develop future economic and business leaders while promoting sustainability.
In his opening remarks, the Dean of FEB UGM, Prof. Dr. Didi Achjari, S.E., M.Com. Ak., CA., emphasized that the purpose of the lecture was to strengthen the understanding of financial literacy, particularly about the development of the Indonesian insurance industry. He noted that through this collaboration with Mandiri Inhealth, the event aimed to encourage various stakeholders further to improve financial literacy among the general public, especially the younger generation.
"By doing so, we can collectively build a strong foundation for the next generation, enabling them to make smart financial decisions and achieve sustainable financial well-being," he said on Friday (4/10).
Didi added that financial literacy, especially in the insurance sector, is the responsibility of regulators or companies and society as a whole, including academics and students. Therefore, this event is expected to serve as a knowledge bridge, providing new insights and inspiring all parties to understand and use insurance products smarter. This effort aligns with FEB UGM's goal of creating future leaders competent in business and economics.
At the event, Eko Yuniato discussed the state of financial literacy and inclusion in Indonesia, as well as tips on choosing insurance. Meanwhile, Marihot H Tambunan presented the development of the insurance industry in Indonesia.
