FEB Students Won Three Awards on OJK Debate Competition

Three FEB UGM Students won awards in the Debate Competition that was held by Otoritas Jasa Keuangan/OJK (Financial Services Authority). They were Nurul Wakhidah (Economics 2011), Dyah Pritadjati (Economis 2010), and Septian Adi (Economics 2011). This
competition was held on Tuesday, June 3rd, 2014 at Aryaduta Hotel, Jakarta. On this competition, UGM team won three awards, such as the best team work, the 3rd best speaker (Nurul Wakhidah), and the most favorite speaker (Dyah Pritadjati).
Muhammad Edhie Purnawan, M.A., Ph.D., Vice Dean for Research, Community Services, Collaboration, and Alumni, as team supervisor attended and directly guided the team on this competition. Besides, the members of Student Executive Board, known as BEM FEB UGM also gave direct supports on the spot for the team.
This event is one of the OJK’s socializing and disseminating OJK to students. UGM team against Universitas Indonesia team on this competition. Debate that was carried out in a modern concept concerned about OJK’s actual problems. There were ten motions that were obligated to be learned by each team, then the motions were simplified into two motions.
First motion was "OJK capable to supervise financial institutions in an integrated manner". UGM team became the negative in this motion. Then, the second motion was "OJK capable to serve consumer protection well". At this time, the UGM team became affirmative team.
The debate was taken placed excitingly because all the speakers in the team were free to give a expostulation. UGM team satisfied with the accomplishments they achieved. "This is the first time for me and my friends joining debate competition, we usually join paper competition, so I am very happy" Dyah said.
In addition, she and her friends were very happy to join this competition because they could meet many outstanding people. The event was opened by Education Sector and Consumer Protection Kusumaningtuti Commissioner Board OJK Member S. Soetiono. This debate was judged by Professor Adler Manurung, Dr. Jerry M and Dr. Djonieri.
Dyah felt that students’ ability in the scientific debate still needs to be improved in order to increase students debate performance. Hopefully, scientific debate culture can be fostered both at the level of activities Department Student Association (Himpunan Mahasiswa Jurusan/HMJ), Student Affairs Organization (Lembaga Kemahasiswaan/LK) and the faculty or university.
By these awards, they got some prizes, such as a trophy, certificate and other prize. Besides, the faculty also rewards prize for the team. It is faculty's commitment to foster the spirit to join student competition.
