FEB UGM Students Chosen as Young Leaders for Indonesia Wave 10 by McKinsey & Company

Two students from Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM) namely Afrizal Hakim Ahmad Faiz (Management 2015) and Sisilia Juliana Hanamaria (Economics IUP 2016) are proudly selected to join the Wave 10 Young Leaders for Indonesia (YLI) program for six months from August 2018 to January 2019, together with other UGM students.
Young Leaders for Indonesia (YLI) is one of the intensive leadership development programs initiated by McKinsey & Company. This program has been running since 2009 and focused on third and fourth year outstanding students who have achievements both academically and non-academically, as well as students who are also active in organization. There are so many leaders who were born from this program such as Nadiem Makarim (CEO and Founder of Go-Jek Indonesia) and Iman Usman (Co-Founder of RuangGuru).
In addition, YLI has good materials in order to prepare themselves to be leaders in the future, YLI also invited several inspiring speakers for the past 6 months, such as Darwin Silalahi (CEO of Shell Indonesia), Najeela Shihab (Founder of Cikal School), Marie Elka Pangestu (Former Minister of Trade and Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy), Haryanto Budiman (CEO of JP Morgan Indonesia), Satrio Tanuwidjojo (CEO of Tanoto Foundation), and Vivi Alatas (Lead Economist of World Bank).
The journey to be selected for the YLI Wave 10 program is not easy. There has been a string of rigorous selections since last July 2018. Starting from short essays competition about leadership experience, vision and mission to advance Indonesia in 2030 and interview with McKinsey & Company consultants and partners. Finally, 64 Indonesian students from various universities in Indonesia, Singapore, Australia and U.K were selected.
In YLI itself there are three must forums that must be followed. In the 1st forum, participants had to learn about personal leadership and make a project about it, called personal leadership project (PLP). Next in 2nd forum, they had to learn how to lead a team (lead team) by dividing participants into small groups to do breakthrough leadership project (BLP) containing cases that must be completed. Furthermore, in the 3rd forum, participants learned about how to make a change (lead change). In this forum, participants are given the opportunity to start careers in the professional world.
