UGM students from the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) continue to make remarkable achievements in various national competitions. This time, Ali Alexander, a student of the Management Program 2021, won first place at the Jambi Financial Inclusion Festival 2024.
Together with Elsa Firlyani (Property Valuation Management-SV 2021), who is part of the Pairgrowth team under the guidance of Eddy Junarsin, Ph.D., CFP, they beat 34 other teams from universities across Indonesia. The Capital Market Study Group of the University of Jambi organized the competition, which took place online from September 23 to November 16, 2024.
Ali shared the team's journey in participating in this competition. In the initial stage, all teams were required to prepare an equity research paper that included a comprehensive analysis of macroeconomics, industry, business profiles, business processes, finances, valuation, and risks related to the company being analyzed. In this competition, each team was asked to analyze PT. Bank Mandiri, which was facing macroeconomic turbulence and struggling to grow, while many people remained skeptical about BMRI stocks.
"PT. Bank Mandiri operates in the banking industry, which differs from non-financial companies with specific financial templates. This made the valuation difficult. However, I am used to calculating bank valuations and was able to complete it quickly and accurately," explained Ali.
The Pairgrowth team's success resulted from their effort, hard work, and teamwork from the preparation phase to the competition. Ali revealed that he and his team faced several challenges, such as time management. He interned at PT Nestlé Indonesia and divided his time between the internship and the competition. Meanwhile, his teammate Elsa was on a student exchange program abroad, which required her to adjust to different time zones.
"Alhamdulillah, despite many challenges, we managed to win and bring pride to FEB and UGM at the national level," he concluded.
