Since 2021, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has joined ten Southeast Asian institutions in the ASEAN Network for Green Entrepreneurship and Leadership (ANGEL) program. This program aims to create inclusive and sustainable opportunities in the green entrepreneurship ecosystem, focusing mainly on disability groups and women with economic limitations. Through this approach, ANGEL enables broader participation in empowering these groups and contributing positively to sustainable development in the ASEAN region.
To support the mission of the ANGEL program, in February 2023, the Faculty of Economics and Business UGM initiated the establishment of an ANGEL Hub at the BSI FEB UGM Entrepreneurship Academy as a research and business development centre focusing on green technology and sustainable development. This step aligns with FEB UGM's mission to nurture future-ready leaders in economics and business to foster sustainability. "This alignment ensures that the development of sustainability in the ANGEL Hub will receive strong support, both in terms of programs and facilities," said Rocky Adiguna, S.E., M.Sc., PhD, one of the ANGEL representatives from UGM and a Lecturer at the Management Department FEB UGM.
ANGEL Hub provides research services for FEB UGM academics and external partners. Students can use ANGEL Hub for assignments and research, including writing theses especially related to green economy and sustainability. Apart from serving the university's internal needs, ANGEL Hub also opens up opportunities for external parties to use it as a channel for their business development. "We position ANGEL Hub to function as a knowledge repository and connecting point for various partners who want to collaborate," continued Rocky.
Continuously, ANGEL Hub will improve its services by collaborating with various partners, such as lecturers and academics, as facilitators. ANGEL Hub also provides equipment support for dissemination, content creation and other purposes. The ANGEL Hub service is connected to the FEB UGM Learning and Academic Production (LAMP) Studio to facilitate the required equipment, such as cameras, monitors and video production tools. In this way, ANGEL Hub becomes a bridge between academic and industrial research needs and a platform for productive collaboration between various parties.
Furthermore, Rocky stated that mainstreaming green and sustainability aspects in universities is very important because this problem cannot be solved partially. Cooperation from various parties is required through a series of collective efforts. The formation of the ANGEL Hub, which FEB UGM initiated, aims to coordinate UGM's common goals to produce a more significant impact. According to Rocky, orientation towards the environment and social aspects is more important than seeking profit alone. The ANGEL Hub team will continue to innovate to develop services, expand partners, and provide facilities according to the needs of stakeholders.
