FEB UGM Delegation Took Part in the 2024 MASUDEM Sustainability Curriculum Development Winter Course

Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM) sent a delegation to take part in the Winter Course for Master Studies in Sustainable Development and Management (MASUDEM) Curriculum Development which partially funded by Erasmus+ European Union, at Srinakharinwirot University, Bangkok, Thailand from 5 to 9 February 2024. The delegation members are lecturers from the Department of Management, namely Rocky Adiguna, Ph.D.; Luluk Lusiantoro, Ph.D.; Yulia Arisnani, Ph.D.; and Rokhima Rostiani M. Mgt. This activity is organized by Erasmus+ and partner universities to support Master Studies in Sustainable Development and Management (MASUDEM) in South East Asia.
This short course was carried out intensively over five days with four speakers from Europe who shared knowledge and best practices that have been implemented in Europe. The first day's activities were initiated by Professor Anetta Caplanova, Ph.D., who provided guidance regarding the importance of inclusivity and sustainability in higher education curriculum design. The guidance was clarified by the knowledge provided by Associate Professor Martina Rašticová, Ph.D. from Mendel University in Brno, Czechoslovak Republic. According to her, inclusivity means providing equal opportunities for individuals to obtain education and to grow, so that higher education should be able to provide facilities and infrastructure that support the learning process of individuals from various backgrounds.
The next session was enlivened by explanations of legal approaches to diversity and social inclusion in higher education delivered by Associate Prof. Raul Sanchez, Ph.D. from Pablo de Olavide University, Seville, Spain. Raul explained about legal processes and access which are important to support inclusivity programs. The next agenda was carried out by Victoria Nagy and assisted by Lily Hattinger, student counselor and psychologist from Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, Hungary regarding their experiences supporting students from different backgrounds. According to Victoria, the support must be institutionalized and tailored according to students' different backgrounds.
In the final day of the course, participants conducted direct practices in designing a curriculum that accommodates sustainability by the various components of the SDGs. The team from FEB UGM tried to develop the immersion course to be more inclusive and accommodate sustainability. The design will be discussed with the faculty and hoped that it can be used as a basis for developing courses that are more inclusive and sustainable.
