The Faculty of Economics and Business of Gadjah Mada University (FEB UGM) participated in the MASUDEM Summer School held at Trisakti University from July 22nd to 26th, 2024.

The Steering Committee/Project Manager of MASUDEM UGM, Prof. Nurul Indarti, Sivilokonom., Cand.Merc., Ph.D., explained that FEB UGM's participation in this event is a manifestation of its commitment as a member of the MASUDEM Consortium (The Master Studies in Sustainable Development and Management), co-funded by the European Union under the ERASMUS+ program. This consortium aims to build the capacity of the MBA program at FEB UGM to respond to sustainability and green economy issues. MASUDEM has provided training sessions and workshops to enhance the knowledge and competencies of lecturers and staff on sustainability issues.

The MASUDEM Summer School was opened by the Rector of Trisakti University, Prof. Dr. Ir. Kadarsah Suryadi, DEA, and the MASUDEM Project Coordinator, Prof. Anetta Caplanova, Ph.D. On this occasion, FEB UGM sent four delegates: Prof. Nurul Indarti, Sivilokonom., Cand.Merc., Ph.D., Sari Sitalaksmi, M.Mgt., Ph.D., Widya Paramita, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D., and Yulia Arisnani Widyaningsih, M.B.A., Ph.D..

The FEB UGM delegation attended several sessions led by experts in their fields. The first lecture session was led by MASUDEM Project Coordinator Prof. Anetta Caplanova, Ph.D., who presented the latest trends in teaching methods for master's students through an overview and practical applications. In this session, Anetta highlighted some best practices for maintaining student engagement during class sessions and engaged in interactive discussions with participants to share their teaching experiences.

Next, on the second day, MASUDEM Summer School participants learned about effective teaching practices from Viktoria Nagy, Ph.D. (Cand) from Eotvos Lorand University. She shared her experience of using interactive approaches to gain deeper insights into student-centered perspectives, where lecturers or facilitators must understand students' needs/motivations for effective learning and the barriers they face while studying. On the third day, Dr. L'ubomir Darmo, Dipl. Ing. discussed innovative teaching methods, particularly the integration of development economics to improve learning outcomes. This topic explored the importance of economic development aspects in determining the most appropriate teaching methods.

The fourth day was followed by a presentation on interactive teaching methods for embracing diversity by Yuliia Prus, Ph.D. Yuliia emphasized that different types of learners should be given the opportunity and autonomy to design their learning methods and achieve their unique goals. Therefore, instructors or facilitators should not dictate the best way of learning and learning outcomes. This session included practical exercises on how to manage learners with different characteristics.

The MASUDEM Summer School was officially closed by Prof. Anetta, who explained the application of technology to support interactive and engaging learning. The event concluded with a city tour program to introduce the international participants to the beauty of Jakarta through visits to Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, the National Monument, and the Sarinah Department Store.
