A career at one of the Big Four accounting firms is a dream for many accounting students. However, working at one of these firms, including PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), requires considerable effort. What skills and preparation are necessary to secure a position at PwC?

To bring PwC closer to students, the Faculty of Economics and Business at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM) hosted a PwC Campus Hiring session, the PwC Indonesia Roadshow 2024: Build Your Tomorrow with PwC, on Friday, October 25, 2024, at the 8th-floor Learning Center building of FEB UGM. This event introduced PwC to students and prepared them for the professional world.

Alisya Sakti, a Deals Advisory Manager at PwC, shared tips on success in a career at PwC. She emphasized that students must enhance their hard and soft skills to succeed at PwC, including a strong sense of responsibility, openness to feedback, a strong willingness to learn, critical and analytical thinking, and a solid commitment to quality work.

"What you learn on campus is very applicable to your day-to-day work. Mastering basic and technical skills in accounting and management helps a lot in understanding projects at PwC," said Alisya during the Career Talk session.

Meanwhile, Dessy Trisnawati, Manager of Tax & Legal Services at PwC, emphasized the importance of a willingness to learn and a commitment to quality. Why are these two aspects so important? She explained that the world is evolving rapidly, so people willing to learn can adapt more quickly to different challenges and changes. "Every year brings greater challenges, but that makes us stronger," she said.

Muhammad Sani, Manager of Risk Assurance at PwC, shared his experience working at PwC. Since joining, he has found a supportive work environment.

"I have learned a lot, worked with a great team, and had the opportunity to move around if I was interested in different business processes," he said.

Similarly, the Consulting Manager noted that since joining PwC, he has experienced a solid feedback mechanism with a clear career path. Hidayah added that PwC has an agile working model that allows for flexibility in the workplace.

Earlier in the day, PwC Indonesia's Human Capital Manager presented the firm's profile during the A Glimpse into PwC Indonesia session. Intan also explained the company's values: Caring, Staying Inquisitive, Making a Difference, Acting with Integrity, and Working Together. These values are the foundation for employees to contribute effectively to the work environment. She added that PwC supports team member well-being through its Wellness Society.

"We have the Wellness Society as a platform for sports and hobbies to increase team member productivity and happiness," she explained.

The campus recruitment event was inaugurated by FEB UGM's Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, Cooperation and Alumni, Gumilang Aryo Sahadewo, S.E., M.A., Ph.D. In his welcome speech, he appreciated PwC's presence and the students from various universities gathered at FEB UGM. Gumilang urged the students to continue learning even after graduation and encouraged them to be lifelong learners, constantly honing the critical technical and soft skills in the workforce.

The event was attended by 300 students from several universities, including Universitas Gadjah Mada, Universitas Islam Indonesia, Universitas Diponegoro, Universitas Atma Jaya, and Universitas Sebelas Maret. Dina Parisya, a participant from Universitas Islam Indonesia, expressed her enthusiasm for the session and the recruitment event.

"I am interested in participating in this recruitment because the career talk provided many insights, especially on improving career paths. With my experience in auditing, I hope to start my career in one of the Big Four firms," she said.
