The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UGM demonstrates its commitment to community empowerment through its mentorship program for the Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes) in Jatirejo Village, Kulon Progo. This strategic mentorship program supports BUMDes Binangun Jati Unggul under the guidance of Prof. Catur Sugiyanto from the Department of Economics at FEB UGM. This initiative not only targets the development of village enterprises led by Tristi Sintawati but also focuses on improving the quality of human resources and implementing ethical business principles.
Sinta, the main driver of BUMDes, uses the knowledge gained from FEB UGM to develop her village. With the support of FEB UGM and the Jatirejo village government, she has developed a strategy that integrates the village's natural assets- scenic landscapes, fresh air, and agricultural potential- with a business model based on community empowerment.
The impact of FEB UGM's mentorship on the development of BUMDes Binangun Jati Unggul has proven to be significant. Sinta and her team have established three interrelated businesses: Resto Bukit Cubung, agricultural trading and production, and financial services. These ventures have effectively boosted the village's economy and contributed significant income to the town in 2023. Now, they continue to expand their business while planning a retirement fund for the workers and most residents.
The mentorship of BUMDes Binangun Jati Unggul in the village of Jatirejo reflects FEB UGM's active role in community development through rural economic empowerment. Through this collaboration, FEB UGM provides relevant business knowledge and strategies and instills principles of ethical business focused on collective well-being. This collaboration demonstrates how academia can drive social change, enabling communities to optimize local potential and achieve sustainable economic self-sufficiency. With a comprehensive and sustainable approach, FEB UGM remains committed to helping Indonesian villages become self-sufficient and highly competitive economic growth centers.
