In collaboration with the Indonesian Waqf Education Foundation, the Center for Economic and Shariah Business Studies (PKEBS) FEB UGM has organized a seminar and workshop on cash waqf entitled WAKAFPRENEUR "Goes To Campus". The event will be held on Friday, 22nd November 2024, at the Faculty of Economics and Business, UGM.

The seminar aims to educate the public and students about waqf, research, and practice through the waqf platform. It is also expected to increase the understanding of productive waqf, including promoting innovative waqf-based student entrepreneurship activities.

The workshop will feature three speakers: Dr. Muhamad, S.Pd., M.Ag., CIRBC, an expert in Islamic finance and banking, who will present on "Cash Waqf as a Disruption of Third Party Funds"; Roy Renwarin, CWP®, CWS®, Director of the Indonesian Waqf Education Foundation, who will speak on "Implementing Halal-Based Waqf"; and Yusri Akhyar, S.Sos, CWP®, CWS®, Executive Director of the Indonesian Waqf Education Foundation, who will share insights on sustainable social impact through cash waqf.

In his opening speech, the coordinator of PKEBS FEB UGM, Novat Pugo Sambodo, S.E., MIDEC., Ph.D., emphasized that waqf is an essential tool in Islamic economics and has the potential to provide long-term benefits.

"Indonesia, one of the most populous countries in the world, sees waqf as a great opportunity and a key pillar in the community's economic development. It provides a strategic solution to reduce social inequalities," he explained.

Despite the considerable potential of waqf, Novat noted that Indonesia still needs to overcome several challenges, including low public awareness of waqf, even in academic settings. Through this workshop, he hopes to increase participants' knowledge of waqf and formulate essential steps to develop waqf.

"Waqf is an act of worship and a long-term investment. This workshop is an important moment to explore the potential of waqf in Indonesia and to encourage the emergence of new research in Islamic economics, not only in banking and equities but also in waqf," he concluded.
