The Indonesian Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (SME), Drs. Teten Masduki, said that Indonesia is trying to become a developed country with a per capita income of more than USD 30,000 by 2045. However, as of 2024, 97 percent of jobs in Indonesia come from micro-enterprises, which are less productive and informal. Currently, Indonesia's per capita income has only reached USD 5,000.
