The Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM) hosts the Gadjah Mada Business Case Competition (GAMABCC). Now in its third year, the competition has attracted hundreds of undergraduate and graduate teams from various local and international universities.
This competition is a tangible manifestation of FEB UGM's mission to prepare competent Indonesian leaders for the digital age. Supported by the FEB UGM Alumni Association (KAFEGAMA) and PT. Pupuk Kaltim, the event aims to provide a platform for learning and mentoring from top business leaders while also serving as a forum for knowledge sharing and a competitive space to foster leadership among Indonesian students.
With the theme "Indonesia Food Sustainability", this third edition challenges undergraduate and graduate students to provide innovative business solutions to address food sustainability challenges in Indonesia. The competition consists of preliminary and final rounds held in a hybrid format.
More than 200 undergraduate and graduate student teams from universities around the world have registered for this competition, including teams from the National University of Singapore, Monash University Malaysia, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, University of Warwick, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, University of the Philippines, Walailak University, University of Osnabrück, UI, ITB, UGM, UII, UNY, Universitas Hasanuddin, Binus, Universitas Sriwijaya, and others.
Dean of FEB UGM, Prof. Dr. Didi Achjari, M.Com., Ak., C.A., said at the opening ceremony of PKT-GAMA BCC, which was held virtually on 11 November 2024, that FEB UGM organized this competition with the theme "Food Sustainability" in line with national and global priorities, namely sustainable food security. "This competition demonstrates FEB UGM's commitment to nurture future leaders and equip them with the skills needed for Indonesia's Golden Generation 2045," he explained. "Through this competition, we aim to harness students' creativity and critical thinking to propose practical and impactful solutions that can advance sustainable food systems."
Since its inception in 2022, the event has been designed to provide a comprehensive learning experience. In addition, the competition is structured to prepare students for future roles by focusing on critical competencies, including fostering original ideas that can have real-world impact. "We are proud to welcome all national and international participants to this year's PKT-GAMA BCC. Together, let us contribute to building a sustainable future for Indonesia and the world," he said.
Chairperson of KAFEGAMA, Dr. Friderica Widyasari Dewi, S.E., M.B.A., said that the PKT-GAMA BCC competition with its theme of "Food Sustainability" is highly relevant to Indonesia's role as one of the largest agricultural countries in the world, with significant potential and active role in achieving food security both locally and globally.
"KAFEGAMA fully supports this competition, which is in line with KAFEGAMA's strategic program and the value of 'migunani' (providing benefits)," she explained. Friderica said that food security and sustainability are the foundation of a country's resilience to global challenges, ranging from climate change to food security and the increasing demand for food due to population growth, making food sustainability a critical issue for societies worldwide. As a country with mega-biodiversity, Indonesia has a valuable asset in managing food availability. However, this potential can be optimized if we build an inclusive and environmentally friendly ecosystem beyond productive food systems. Through the PKT-GAMA BCC competition, it is hoped that the younger generation, including students, can play a role in providing solutions to this food security issue.
PT Pupuk Kaltim's Director of Finance and General Affairs, Qomaruzzaman, mentioned that Pupuk Kaltim is firmly committed to integrating sustainability principles in all its business activities to enhance production efficiency and environmentally conscious practices by utilizing the latest technology to support green technology. "This competition is about finding immediate solutions and creating ideas with long-term impact on sustainable development.
