Students from the Faculty of Economics and Business at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM) have swept the top prizes at the IMA Asia Pacific Student Case Competition, held virtually on July 19, 2024. Two teams from FEB UGM, Threesixty, and Gamastrive, secured first and second place in this prestigious international competition.

The IMA Asia Pacific Student Case Competition is an international event organized by the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA). It provides a platform for students from various universities in the Asia-Pacific region to showcase their skills in solving business cases.

Threesixty team members include Jasmine Iliyya (Accounting 2021), Marcheline Natasya (Accounting 2021), Patero Krinara (Accounting 2021), Evan Togatorop (Accounting 2021), and Krisna Arianta (Information Technology 2021). The team was guided by Singgih Wijayana, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D., and mentored by Dr. Ir. Okkie Putriani, S.T., M.T., CIAR.

The Gamastrive team comprises five Accounting 2021 students: Exxel Diandra Adyatma, Clara Alverina Laurensia, Dinda Redinata, Hans Mangatur Pakpahan, and Raihan Mufid Rufiano. This team was supervised by Choirunnisa Arifa, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D., Ak., CA., Prof. Ainun Na'im, M.B.A., Ph.D., and Dr. Puspita Ghaniy Anggraini, S.E., and mentored by Dr. Ir. Okkie Putriani, S.T., M.T., CIAR.

Jasmine from the Threesixty team stated that achieving this victory took work. They had to undergo rigorous selection processes from the preliminary rounds to the finals.

“In the preliminary round, all teams were required to submit a proposal as a deck presentation. In the final round, four top teams from Indonesia, Vietnam, and Malaysia,” she said when contacted on Monday (7/22).

In the competition, teams were given a business case involving a food distribution company. They were asked to choose the most appropriate accounting method for a company facing a cash surplus and looking to invest.

“We were asked to evaluate whether the company should choose the Fair Value or Equity Method,” she explained.

Jasmine enjoyed winning first place in this prestigious competition as the team upheld their winning tradition.

“Of course, we are delighted to maintain the first place again, as last year's winner was also from FEB UGM. We hope the next batch can continue this legacy next year,” she hoped.

Meanwhile, Exxel from the Gamastrive team said that participating in the IMA competition provided a memorable experience for his team. They never expected to make it to the finals because the given case was very challenging and related to financial accounting.

“The announcement of the teams advancing to the finals was delayed, so we did not have high expectations. Praise God, we managed to get through this competition and win the first runner-up. Hopefully, this experience can motivate our team and friends to keep learning and growing,” he said.

The success of the Threesixty and Gamastrive teams is undoubtedly due to the support of FEB UGM. FEB UGM, through the Career and Student Development Unit (CSDU), facilitates all students participating in competitions by providing mentors and supervisors and facilities and infrastructure to support students in these competitions.

“CSDU continues to strive to facilitate student development by providing the best support and creating a good and positive competition atmosphere,” explained Head of CSDU FEB UGM, Arizona Mustikarini, Ph.D.

Commenting on the achievements of FEB UGM students, Arizona expressed appreciation and pride for the results obtained. The achievements are a shared victory for the entire academic community of FEB UGM.

“It took a village to raise a child. So it requires the cooperation of various parties at FEB to support the students' victories,” she said, hoping that FEB UGM can continue to maintain its winning tradition.
