A student team from the Master of Science in Management Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business UGM successfully secured the Consolidation Winner 2 title in the International Gadjah Mada Business Case Competition (GAMABCC) 2024, held at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) on Sunday (11/24/2024).
The FEB UGM team, named "Semua Rempah Indonesia", consisted of Fatimah, Cikal Rambasae N., and Ansari A. Syahafin, all from the class of 2023. They were mentored by Tedi Salvani Wintoko, a Ph.D. student in Management Science and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Solar Nusantara.
Throughout the competition, all participating teams underwent several stages of selection, from administrative screening to solving various business cases. "Semua Rempah Indonesia" dealt with two cases related to PT Pupuk Kaltim.
Developing a Platform to Support Farmers
Cikal explained that the team was challenged to address a 70% decline in sales and market share at Pupuk Kaltim in the first case. Their solution was to develop a food price index platform. This platform is designed to assist farmers in strategic planting planning by providing real-time data on crop price indices and price forecasts, potentially increasing farmers' income.
In addition, the platform can be used by Pupuk Kaltim (PKT) for efficient and dynamic resource allocation by providing aggregated crop price data to help PKT determine which fertilizers to produce.
The second case, "Semua Rempah Indonesia," addressed the issue of farmers' dependence on chemical fertilizers and low adoption of organic fertilizers due to negative perceptions, high production costs, and inefficient supply chains. They suggested the development of two digital platforms: Tractim and Herball ID.
Tractim is a real-time monitoring system that enables PKT to track inventory, analyze logistics data, and distribute fertilizer efficiently. Meanwhile, Herball ID focuses on educating farmers, managing organic fertilizer price indices, and personalizing promotions according to market needs.
"The integration of these two platforms is designed to increase supply chain transparency, promote organic fertilizer adoption, and provide targeted data forecasts and promotions," Cikal explained on Monday (12/2/2024).
A New Experience
Cikal shared that participating in this prestigious competition was a new experience, especially in solving real business cases. During their studies, the team learned theories and conducted academic research, but solving case studies required them to adapt to practical challenges quickly.
"We remained committed to doing our best. As a result, we successfully designed supply chain digitization and personalized promotion solutions that were theoretically robust, relevant, and applicable to the business world," he said.
Cikal also expressed that this experience provided new insights into applying theories to real-world problems. In addition, participating in the competition motivated them to continue learning and improving.
"We are proud to have represented the Master of Science in Management program. In the future, we hope to contribute to innovative solutions in academia and industry," he concluded.
